LIMA POLICE FORCE DOG IS HIT, KILLED BY CAR

A golden retriever that joined the city police force in 1992 died Saturday after he ran into the path of a car and was struck.

Sniffer, 11, was at home with his handler, Officer Randy Kohli, when the accident occurred, police said. He was buried at Officer Kohli's home.

The dog served as a narcotics detection K-9 and was responsible for the seizure of considerable illegal drugs during his career.

He and Officer Kohli frequently visited schools in the city and Allen County as part of the "Officer Friendly Program."
